They were rather opposed to the government controlling them, and fleeing FROM it. I think this should be a personal issue. Each Church, or other Group, should be able to define Marriage for themselves, practice it how they will, and not impose upon any other group. I'm inclined to be supportive of everyones rights, and opposed to restricting the rights of any minority, however small, or any majority, however large, for that matter.
